The digital marketing world is always in a state of flux. Consumers change their demands all the time, and it is our job to stay on top of how these wants evolve and transform. A combination of research, upskilling and technical knowledge helps us stay ahead of the competition so we can get results for our clients.
This week we learned that…
Instagram Stories Are Hugely Important For Brands
2020 marks Instagram’s 10th anniversary and the platform is predicted to continue its impressive growth (currently over 1 billion monthly users) well into the next decade.
Instagram Stories has become a huge part of that success, particularly for businesses. 500 million people use Instagram Stories every day, up from 150 million in 2017. With one-third of the most-viewed Stories from businesses, it’s well worth investing in an Instagram Stories strategy.
Customer Service Matters More Than Ever
When customers have a positive experience with a brand on social media, they are more likely to recommend that brand to others. Therefore, managing your online presence is more important than ever in 2020.
Keeping in touch with your audience on social media and interacting with them regularly shows them you care and helps build positive relationships. Responding to comments, mentions and messages promptly are all part of creating a positive experience for your customers. To keep on top of your social media complaints and compliments it’s important to set up a social media customer service plan. You would never ignore a customer standing in front of you, so don’t ignore them online!
Facebook Is Still The Market Leader
While the demographic of Facebook users may have changed, overall it is still the world’s most used social media platform with more than 2.45 billion monthly active users. The popularity of Facebook Groups continues to grow and seniors (65 and over) are the fastest-growing age demographic on the site.
Getting the most out of Facebook in 2020 requires a well thought out strategy. It’s important to know how the Facebook algorithm works and how to optimise both paid and organic options so your content reaches the right audience.
2019 Digital Marketing Stats
Customer Led Journeys Are The Key To Marketing Success
New research shows that enabling customer-led journeys can make a huge difference in converting customers, retaining them and achieving your overall business goals. Instead of dictating to customers, brands need to enable them by relinquishing control and switching from a campaign mindset to a customer-centric one. This includes the post-purchase phase which isn’t as well catered for as the pre-purchase and purchase phases.
A recent survey saw 87% of 477 marketers acknowledge the transformative benefits of customer-led journeys, allowing them to differentiate their clients’ brands from the competition, increase brand loyalty and deliver better returns. Ultimately, customers are now not only demanding better experiences, but they are also willing to pay for them too.
Consumers Are Less Willing To Share Personal Data
It probably won’t surprise most marketing professionals to learn that potential customers are far less likely to share their personal data than they were a year ago. The Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) in the US surveyed over 1000 adults and found a sharp decline in the number of people willing to share personal information compared to the same time the year before. This included:
- Email addresses
- Employment status
- Sexual orientation
- Citizenship status
- Marital status
- Gender and race
The survey found that even if sharing their data meant a more personalised experience, recipients were still not willing to give up their private data.
Asia-Pacific Consumers Prefer Environmentally Friendly Brands
A recent survey found that consumers in the Asia-Pacific are more concerned about the environment.
- A third of survey respondents were more receptive to brands who donated to environmental charities.
- 34% of people surveyed would choose a brand who minimised their packaging over one that didn’t
- 44% think retailers should be open about where they source their products from.
Like consumers elsewhere, APAC (Asia-Pacific) consumers also rate UX, mobile responsiveness and in-app experience as very important to their perception of a brand.
